Midsummer Abundance: Enjoying the Fullness of the Season

The sun is high, the days are long, and everywhere I look, the energy of the summer season seems to spill out into the open.
Markets fill with people wandering from stall to stall. Festivals and fairs pop up on weekends. Theme parks are buzzing. Patios are full. Movie theatres are filled with people eager to catch the latest summer blockbuster. There’s music, food, laughter, and that unmistakable energy that comes from a lot of people enjoying the same place at the same time.
As an introvert, I'll admit that all that energy can sometimes be a lot for me.
The crowds. The noise. The movement. So many people everywhere. Every now and then, I find myself looking for a quieter corner.
But that doesn't stop me from enjoying the atmosphere.
I love watching people laugh together. Seeing someone excited to go on a ride. Kids running around. Friends talking over each other. People lining up at a food stall, deciding what they want to try. Vendors sharing something they've made with people who genuinely want to see it.
There's something joyful about being surrounded by people who are simply enjoying themselves.
Sometimes I'm right in the middle of it. Sometimes I'm happier watching from the edges.
Either way, I'm thankful to be part of it.
Our Little Summer Adventures
Summer invites us out on little adventures.
Some days, that means packing up and heading to the beach. I love the sun, the water, and even the sand that somehow manages to come home with us no matter what we do.

I love watching everyone settle into their own little patch of beach for the day. Kids playing in the water, families unpacking coolers, people floating or swimming, someone stretched out in the sun. Everyone is doing their own thing, but we’re all sharing the same summer day.
And then there are our own little moments within it—watching my son play in the water, tossing a beach ball back and forth, gazing out across the water toward the horizon, or getting cozy in my beach chair with a good book.
Another summer tradition is making a trip to the theme park. There’s something contagious about the excitement there. Hearing people scream on the roller coasters, smelling funnel cakes and popcorn, deciding which ride to head to next, and watching families make memories together. Even when I'm not on a ride, I enjoy soaking in the atmosphere.
Whenever my family and I head out for one of our adventures—whether it’s a beach day, a festival, a market, a theme park or somewhere completely new—there’s usually a moment when I find myself quietly giving thanks.
For the time together.
For the resources that allow us to go.
For the places we’re able to visit and the experiences available to us.
It doesn’t have to be a big trip or an elaborate day out. Sometimes it’s simply knowing that we went somewhere together, did something fun, and got to share another day.
Wandering the Markets & Festivals

Markets might be one of my favorite ways to spend a summer day.
There’s something about wandering without much of a plan. Looking at whatever catches my attention. Seeing what people have made. Smelling food from the stalls. Finding something I wasn’t looking for.
Summer has taken us to more markets and festivals than I could possibly fit into one post. Some have been small local markets we wandered through for an afternoon, while others have been busy festivals filled with food, music and people everywhere.
I love that each one has its own personality.
I especially enjoy cultural festivals because they give me the chance to experience a little taste of another culture—sometimes quite literally. I get to try foods I may not have had before, listen to music, watch performances, browse the vendors, and learn a little about the traditions being shared.
Food is usually one of my favorite parts. There’s something fun about looking through all the options, choosing something unfamiliar, and just giving it a try. Sometimes I discover something I love, and sometimes I decide once was enough.
Then there are the witches' markets, where the experience feels completely different. Crystals. Candles. Tarot and oracle decks. Readings. Handmade creations. All the things I’m naturally drawn to gathered together in one place.
I look around and think, Ah. My people.
I can browse crystals for far too long, smell candles I absolutely do not need, get a reading, talk to a vendor, or simply wander around taking everything in.
There’s something comforting about being in a space where the things I love don’t feel unusual or need explaining.
I can simply enjoy being there.
I also enjoy the opportunities summer brings to try something new. I've taken part in events like intuitive painting, an ancestral healing circle, and sound baths. I love following that little spark of curiosity and seeing where it leads.
Sometimes I discover something I want to do again, sometimes I learn something new, and sometimes I'm simply glad I gave it a try.
The Flavors of Summer
And then, of course, there’s the food. Food is a big part of so many of my favorite summer memories.
Watermelon is one of those foods that simply tastes like summer to me. Cold, sweet, juicy watermelon on a hot day…what more can I say?
Then there are funnel cakes.
Fried dough covered in powdered sugar and whatever else we decide to pile on top? Yes, please. There are some foods I associate with fairs, festivals, theme parks and summer events, and funnel cakes are definitely one of them.
And ice cream.

We celebrate Ice Cream Day sometime in July, but as far as I’m concerned, every day is Ice Cream Day.
I can list so many kinds of foods that I look forward to and enjoy in the summer. It’s a big part of so many of my favorite summer memories.
Sometimes it’s something seasonal that I’ve been waiting for. Sometimes it’s something we only seem to eat when we’re out on an adventure. Sometimes it’s simply a cold treat on a hot afternoon.
Summer Traditions & Simple Joys
Every summer seems to come with its own little traditions.
One of mine is looking forward to the summer blockbusters. There's something exciting about seeing the movie trailers begin to appear and wondering which films we'll see over the next few months. Going to the theatre on a warm evening, popcorn in hand, has become part of what summer feels like to me.
I love that summer gives us so many different ways to enjoy it.
Some days are filled with adventures. Some are spent reading on the beach. Some end with ice cream. Some are as simple as wandering through a market or watching the people around me.
And then there are the fireworks.
I never seem to outgrow the excitement of watching them. For a few minutes, everyone stops what they're doing, looks up at the same sky, and simply enjoys the show.

And of course, it wouldn't feel like summer without the occasional barbecue shared with family and friends.
I don't feel the need to do everything the season has to offer. Quiet days at home are part of my summer too.
But I love knowing that all of these little invitations are there whenever I feel like saying yes.
Being Here for It
I used to associate being present with quiet moments—sitting somewhere peaceful, slowing down, listening to the birds, or watching the sky.
And I do love those moments.
But I'm learning that presence can happen in the middle of noise too. It can be found at a crowded market, in line for a roller coaster, watching my son laugh in the water, reading a book on the beach, eating a funnel cake, buying another crystal that calls to me, or sitting in a movie theatre waiting for the lights to dim.
Maybe that's what I love most about summer.
It's made up of simple moments that invite me to slow down, enjoy them, and be fully present. That's what makes these moments feel sacred to me.
I embrace the gifts of every season however I can, knowing that before long the sun will begin to set a little earlier each evening and summer will gently make way for autumn.
